Access Realtime Translation
The Texas Court Reporters Association, through its CART Foundation, administers
testing for qualification as a CART provider for persons with hearing loss. The
test is based on speed and accuracy in realtime, with five levels of certification
ranging from Level I at 170 words per minute to Level V at 210 words per minute.
The CSR, RPR, or RMR are prerequisites to testing.
CCP - Certified CART Provider
The National Court Reporters Association administers testing for qualification
as a CART provider for persons with hearing loss. The test is based on accuracy
in realtime at 180 words per minute and includes a written knowledge test.
CMRS – Certified Manager
of Reporting Services
The National Court Reporters Association certifies court reporting firm managers
through a training program that covers financial and personnel issues as well
as communication and marketing skills.
CLR - Certified LiveNote Reporter
CRR - Certified Realtime Reporter
The National Court Reporters Association currently administers testing for accuracy
in realtime writing for legal proceedings at 180 words per minute. Earlier tests
were conducted at variable speeds of 180 to 200 words per minute. The RPR is
a prerequisite to testing.
CSR - Certified Shorthand Reporter
The Supreme Court of Texas, through the Court Reporters Certification Board,
certifies reporters in Texas at speeds up to 225 words per minute and a written
knowledge test on Texas laws and rules. Continuing education for CSR renewal
is required, in addition to adherence to the Code of Professional Conduct for
Texas Court Reporters and other rules governing officers of the court.
FAPR – Fellow of the Academy
of Professional Reporters
The National Court Reporters Association recognizes outstanding contributions
to the profession of court reporting through a nomination process and final approval
by its board of directors.
RMR - Registered Merit Reporter
The National Court Reporters Association administers testing at speeds of up
to 260 words per minute in addition to a written knowledge test.
RPR - Registered Professional Reporter
The National Court Reporters Association administers testing at speeds of up
to 225 words per minute in addition to a written knowledge test.
